Rare Chinese Ming Dynasty Cloisonne Six-Lobed Bowl Zhadou with Cover

This rare and unusual zhadou cloisonné bowl is densely decorated with stylized dark-blue dragons grasping yellow and green lingzhi in their mouths. The flange and side are also decorated with ruyi and Shou. The base is flat. 

明晚期 銅胎掐絲琺瑯盤龍紋折沿花口蓋盤

This type of vessel is rare and even more so because of the original lid that is still on it. The pattern with the dark-blue dragons is bold, typically late Ming, with the dynasty in its final stages. The form of the rim with its gentle curves is particularly pleasing.

Age: 15th to 16th century (Late Ming Dynasty)

Roger Keverne is a legendary collector and dealer based in London, UK. He served twice as chairman of Asian Art in London and was the head of Oriental art vetting committees at a range of international fairs.
Keverne worked with prominent collectors, including David Rockefeller, Florence, and Herbert Irving, Gerald Arnhold, and Sir Peter Moores. His gallery at 16 Clifford Street, London (which closed in 2020) will forever be remembered by many Chinese art collectors, students and researchers.
